Adding Content to Your Presentation
In StreamAuthor File Studio, the Timeline helps you to visualize your presentation content and timing. Your presentation begins on the timeline and most editing functions can be controlled through the timeline. To make a Presentation, you will take content from the Media and Slides Libraries, and add it to the Timeline. You can use the labeled Timeline on the right if you would like to know the names of any items on the StreamAuthor Timeline. The next section will explain how to add files to the Library. If you already know how to do this, please skip ahead to Adding Files to the Timeline.

Adding Files to the Library - If you wish to add files to the Media Library, you must first select the Media panel of the Library. Similarly, if you wish to add files to the Slides Library, you must first select the Slide panel of the Library. There are three different ways to add new content to StreamAuthor's libraries:

1) Click on the Import Media/Slides Button (Import Media/Slides) button in the library window
2) Press "Ctrl-I" on the keyboard
3) Choose "Import…" from the "File" menu

When importing Slide files, you can either view all files together, or you can view each of the supported file types individually. StreamAuthor can import not only PowerPoint files, but also Excel, Word, GIF, JPEG, BMP and HTML files. StreamAuthor also supports most major audio and video file formats for importing as Media files.

Adding Files to the Timeline - All files can be moved from the Library to the Timeline in one of three ways:

1) Doubling-clicking on the file
2) Drag 'n' Drop the file into the corresponding Timeline 'Track'
3) Right-clicking on the file and choosing 'Add to Timeline.'

Select your primary video file from the Library, and add it to the Timeline. StreamAuthor will automatically adjust the length of your Template to match the length of your first video selection. Right-clicking on the newly added file in the Video Track will allow you to modify the behavior of this video file. You can choose to add a Watermark, Background Audio, Remove the Existing Audio, Rename the item, or make adjustments to the file's audio or video.

After changing to the Slides panel of the Library, you can choose the first slide for your presentation. Add the slide to the Slides 1 Track of the Timeline. Right-clicking on your new file in the Slide 1 Track will allow you to rename the item or remove it from the Timeline. If you wish, you can add additional slide files to the timeline at this time. However, a different aspect of adding slides to the timeline will also be discussed in the Synchronize Video and Slides tutorial.

Working with Files on the Timeline

The Timeline is a very simple and straightforward tool for moving files and altering the timing of your presentation. The Timeline allows you to change the duration or location of a slide, template or TOC item with just one click. By clicking on a Timeline item and moving it to the left or right, you can change its position without changing its duration. If you would like to give an item more or less on-screen time in the presentation, you can do so by placing the mouse cursor between two Timeline items in the same track. When the horizontal resize (double-arrow) cursor appears, clicking and dragging it will allow you to change the size/duration relationship.

Neighboring items in the Track influence the effects of some actions. Remember that you can Undo your changes if you are not happy with them.
