How do I change the file associations for media files opened in Windows?

CyberLink PowerDVD is a powerful program that can play many different media files and act as your default media playback software. If you would like to play the media files with PowerDVD, follow the steps below to change the default playback software in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

1. Open Default Programs

For Windows 8.1:

(A) Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.

(B) Enter Default Programs in the search box, and then tap or click Default Programs.

For Windows 7:

(A) Click the Start button, and then click Default Programs.

2. Tap or click Set your default programs.

3. Choose PowerDVD in the left list to set it as the default.

4. Set the program as the default for all associated file types, or manually choose each file type if required.

(A) Click Set this program as default.

Note: this will associate the selected program PowerDVD as the default to open all of the file types and protocols that it can open.

(B) Click Choose defaults for this program and then click Save. (To manually choose the file extensions you want this program to open by default.)

Note: This will associate the the selected program PowerDVD as the default to open the selected file types and protocols by you from the list that the program can open.

5. Click OK.
