The new edition of CyberLink PowerDVD would make a great foundation for your home entertainment system. It's flexible, powerful and remarkably easy to use. It's missing a couple of small features, but offers a huge amount for the price

I use PowerDVD mainly for its ability to play blurays from my internal drive. It also functions pretty well as a universal video file player although not much different than WMP, VLC, etc. In my experience, this software is the easiest way to be able to watch blurays on your computer. I previously used the 15 edition and did not notice any differences compared to this 17 version.

Still the best viewer out there and so much more now. There is one caveat. It supports HDCP compliance which means your display must have this capability as well or it won't let you play the new blu-rays (specifically 4K). I've had no problems with my regular Blu-Rays on my pc wired directly to my LG OLED 4K TV, or with my 4K discs in this set up. You do have to know your technology to keep up with them however and that means doing your homework on what HDCP compliance is and what you have to have in your set up to handle it.

This is a great upgrade over an older version for a video nut like myself. I love the HD 4K capability and the True Theater HDR which is very useful for my DVD's that never came out in Blu-ray versions!
