December
21, 2000----Taipei, Taiwan----PowerVCR II, the real-time MPEG-1/2 video
and TV recording software program, recently received yet another top honour
by winning the December 2000 Best Technik Testsieger Award, from Germany's CHIP
Magazine. This award, which translates to "Best Technology Test Winner" in English,
was given to PowerVCR II for its advanced features in digital video recording,
playback and editing, versus competing MPEG-2 software encoders. PowerVCR II
has previously won the "Best of Computex 2000" Award for Best Multimedia product
from Nikkei Byte of Japan, where Web-enabled digital video recording (DVR) is
firmly established in the Japanese market and widely enjoyed by its tech-savvy
consumers.
CHIP
magazine notes that the highlights of PowerVCR II are its ability to easily
record video in MPEG-1/2 format and time-shifting playback, which allows users
to view recorded programs from the start while the program is still being recorded.
"PowerVCR II is clearly the winner," says Peter Schuller, of CHIP Magazine,
"...convincing for its high picture quality and it's vast volume of features."
"Winning
CHIP's Best Technik Testsieger Award is a major achievement for the CyberLink
team!" says Jean Lin, Product Manager at CyberLink Corp. "With PowerVCR II's
superior MPEG-1/2 recording performance, consumers are able to record and edit
video from any capture device. Users with a TV tuner card and Internet connection
can access CyberEPG (PowerVCR II's online program guide), to pre-schedule record
their favorite programs and view them on-demand."
DVR
set-top box devices with functions such as instant replay, time-shifting playback,
and pre-scheduled recording via Internet electronic program guides (EPG), are
popular in the United States and gaining momentum globally. As more regions
of the world start to utilize this technology, PowerVCR II offers a more affordable
alternative to set-top box hardware solutions and allows consumers to fully
utilize the multimedia versatility of their PC. DVR software is the perfect
solution for recording video and TV programs with ease and convenience, and
in high quality digital format. As such, CyberLink's PowerVCR II, the software
that can perform MPEG-1 or 2 video recording in real-time, offers the perfect
solution for consumers who are ready to enter the digital age.
"Since
today's PC's are equipped with faster CPU's, they are more capable of handling
digital video recording, playback and editing functions. Thus, PowerVCR II offers
the perfect software solution for consumers looking for a more flexible and
cost effective alternative to hardware recorders", says CyberLink CEO, Alice
H. Chang.
