What are the differences between the OEM, Retail, and iSales versions of CyberLink software?

CyberLink is the complete multimedia solution provider, but your software may be obtained in several different ways and in many different versions.

The differences between each version of a CyberLink product is described below. Regardless of which version you have installed, CyberLink will provide you with technical support when required. Letting the support team know which exact version you have installed, will speed up the technical support process for you.

OEM

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. CyberLink provides custom software solutions for hardware manufacturers, such as desktop PCs, laptop PCs, Blu-ray Disc drives, DVD-ROM drives, camcorders VGA cards etc.

You may have received some CyberLink software bundled with your hardware, on a CD/DVD. For desktop PCs or laptop PCs, the CyberLink software may be pre-installed on your hard drive without a physical disc. Since OEM versions are given for free to customers, the functions of the OEM version software may not be exactly the same as the Retail or iSales versions. The OEM version may also have some customizations based on the specification of the bundled hardware, or include the removal of some features due to cost consideration of the hardware manufacturer.

However, CyberLink does sell a special OEM specific upgrade so users can easily change to the full (iSales) version. To upgrade your CyberLink software, you can visit the CyberLink web site and locate the product name under the Products tab. You can easily find an Upgrade link on each product page, which lists the different prices for each version type.

Retail

The Retail version of a CyberLink product refers to the ‘Box’ version that you can purchase from a retail store. In the box version, it includes an installation CD or DVD, a printed user’s guide, and any other required accessories depending on the essential of the software.

The Retail version usually includes all of the major features for a specific product, excluding any special third-party licenses, which sometimes need to be purchased separately.

iSales

iSales version always refers to a version of CyberLink software that was downloaded from the CyberLink on-line store or from one of our suppliers. You can purchase most of CyberLink software from Internet, which will provide you with a download link and an activation key in few minutes after placing that order.

Of course, you can choose different version types of the software, such as the Deluxe version, the Ultra version or the Platinum version. When purchasing an iSales version, you have the option to purchase Extend Download or Backup CD services. You can also select those options if you can’t save the downloaded file in a safe place. However, we strongly recommend that you back up the downloaded program and the activation key of the purchased software in case you need to re-install in the future.

The iSales version usually includes all of the major features for a specific product, excluding any special third-party licenses, which sometimes need to be purchased separately.
