Panasonic Industrial Europe Chooses CyberLink Digital Video Software for DVDBurner Drive Bundle in Europe

Untitled Document

Taipei, Taiwan----September 11, 2001----CyberLink Corp., a leading developer of digital video and multimedia streaming software, is pleased to announce that PowerDVD and PowerVCR II will now come bundled with the DVDBurner Drive available in Europe from Panasonic Industrial Europe. CyberLink’s award-winning digital video software combination of PowerDVD and PowerVCR II take full advantage of the dual DVD formats supported by Panasonic’s all-in-one DVD-RAM/R drive: DVD-RAM, which offers high capacity rewritable data storage and DVD-R, a write once format compatible with most DVD players and DVD-ROM drives. This combination ensures that users will have the most flexibility to enjoy the benefits of the latest digital video and DVD entertainment technologies available on the market.

PowerDVD 3.0, CyberLink's award-winning DVD playback software, was chosen for bundling with the DVD-RAM/R drive because of its high-quality DVD playback that rivals any set-top hardware player. CyberLink's PowerVCR II 3.0 enables computers to directly or pre-schedule record TV programs into high-quality MPEG-1 & 2 formats, which can be burned onto long-lasting DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs that can be played back from virtually any DVD device.

The DVDBurner from Panasonic is a high-capacity, multi-format optical storage device with bundled software that allows users to transform their multimedia contents into DVD-Videos and DVD-ROMs, and then burn onto DVD-R or rewritable DVD-RAM discs using the same drive. For applications that require editing or adding to a disc, the DVDBurner can be used to record to a 4.7GB (9.4GB double sided) DVD-RAM disc, which provides more than 100,000 write/rewrite cycles. When maximum compatibility with DVD video players, recorders and DVD-ROM drives is required, a 4.7GB write-once DVD-R general purpose disc can be used. Both types of media can store up to 2 hours of MPEG-2 video and consistently deliver superior video quality, no matter how many times the video is played.

"By combining our complete digital video playback and recording software solutions with Panasonic's high-capacity DVD-RAM/R drive, users can enjoy compelling digital video and DVD entertainment from the home PC," according to Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. "This combination gives digital video enthusiasts a powerful solution to enjoy, create and share high quality videos from virtually any PC and to play them back on any DVD device."

Using a 4.7GB DVD-R general media disc, the Panasonic DVD-RAM/R drive provides a transfer rate of up to 11.08 Mbps, which is equivalent to about 9 times the transfer rate of CD-ROM's 1X speed. The 22.16 Mbps transfer rate for 4.7GB DVD-RAM translates to an 18x CD data rate. Seek times are 75ms for DVD-RAM and 65ms DVD-R, DVD-ROM and CD media.

"We've set the industry standard for rewritable DVD formats with DVD-RAM, and for write once DVD formats with DVD-R," according to John Newman, Sales and Marketing Manager of Panasonic Industrial Europe Limited. "With the DVD Burner users can enjoy advanced flexibility, compatibility, security and speed of both formats in one single drive."
