TAIPEI, TAIWAN – August 6, 2020 – CyberLink Corp. (5203.TW), a pioneer in AI and facial recognition technologies, partnered with NTT DATA to deploy a remote retail solution at an unstaffed concept store with Tokyu Hands in Shibuya. Powered by CyberLink’s FaceMe® facial recognition engine, the concept store is a smart retail pilot project being tested for real-world application from June 1^st to 15^th, 2020. The integrated solution combines remote serving services, digital information monitors and the use of anonymized AI data analytics to drive a stronger self-service customer experience. FaceMe® supports the pilot program by identifying the age, gender and facial emotion data of customers inside the retail environment to assist in measuring the effectiveness of project, paving the way for a brilliant, cashier-less retail solution.

Due to the growing decline of Japan's labor force and the increased health risk posed by COVID-19 from physical interactions, Japan's retail sector, like most, has suffered from retail expansion difficulties. NTT DATA's concept in the Tokyu Hands store (Scramble Square, Shibuya), collects live customer data to demonstrate how retail locations that are both employee-less and touchless can thrive.

The solution provides customers with guest guidance using interactive monitors and displays to facilitate touchless customer transactions. Sales consultants at the Shinjuku office use virtual avatars to offer brand instructions and product recommendations. In which way, retailers can optimize the resource of sales consultants who are specialized in product knowledge, and flexibly serve different store locations disregard of geographic limitations. In-store cameras use FaceMe® to identify age, gender and emotional data, combining with NTT Data’s voice-to-text technology, the collected data can be used in the future to further improvement of customer service quality, product development and estimate the return of investment of promotional events.
