CyberLink Rolls Out PowerVCR, the Real-Time Software MPEG-1 Recording Software

April 28, 1999, Taipei,Taiwan -- CyberLink Corp., the software expert in video and audio technology, has announced shipment of the PowerVCR, the software-only real-time MPEG-1 recorder that will turn the personal computer into a digital video center. Based on the proprietary vidoe and audio compression technology from CyberLink, PowerVCR allows users to view and record video contents from TV tuners, VCR, handy camcorders and PC cameras in real-time. The compressed and recorded video contents can be later edited or saved in storage devices.

"The market has long anticipated to move motion images from analog to digital formats," said Alice H. Change, CEO of CyberLink. "Digital formats preserves video contents at its original form and quality. But current solutions require workstation computers or very large storage device. PowerVCR is the first software solution that enables video recording and editing right on the Personal computer."

Most video recording solution requires users to capture video in AVI format then transform into MPEG-1. But, AVI format takes up 33GB of hard disk space which is 30 times as much as the compressed MPEG-1 format. PowerVCR can be used in many applications such as making company video in digital format, record TV programs for later viewing or store valuable home videos onto CD-ROMs.

Main Features:

High Video Quality
PowerVCR captures video data from PC cameras, TV tuners, camcorders and VCRs into MPEG-1 format in real-time at 352 x 288 video resolution, which can be viewed later at full-screen.

Intiutive Graphic Interface
PowerVCR features comprehensive graphical user interface that simulates a camcorder allowing users to easily operate the software immediately.

Editing Tools Included
PowerVCR provides "cut and paste" functions allowing users to edit MPEG-1 files and to produce video clips that can be saved in CD-ROMs, hard disk or any other storage device.

AVI Conversion
PowerVCR offers AVI-to-MPEG-1 conversion function allowing users to transform space consuming AVI video files into compressed MPEG-1 format.
