Hoing Mobility Service Enhances iRent Member Identity Verification with FaceMe eKYC

Overview

iRent, a leading car and scooter sharing brand with more than 2 million members across Taiwan¹, offers 24-hour self-service car and scooter sharing. Users can reserve, pick up, and return vehicles through its mobile app. Before using the service, new members must complete registration, submit their ID documents, driver’s licenses, and selfies, and pass identity and driving eligibility reviews.

As its membership continues to grow, iRent seeks to further improve member review efficiency while maintaining secure identity verification and a positive user experience. To support these goals, Hoing Mobility Service Co., Ltd. adopted CyberLink’s FaceMe eKYC digital identity verification solution, integrating AI OCR for ID document recognition, document verification, face-to-ID matching, and liveness detection into iRent’s existing member workflow through APIs.

The Challenge: Scaling Secure Identity Verification Amid Rapid Membership Growth

Car and scooter sharing services require reviews of members’ identities and driving eligibility. In addition to providing basic information, new members must submit their ID documents, driver’s licenses, and selfies for verification before they can activate the service.

During registration, poorly angled photos, glare, or blurred images of ID documents can affect document data recognition and subsequent reviews. If the information cannot be read correctly, members may need to retake photos or submit additional materials. This extends waiting times, affects the user experience, and increases the workload for manual verification and review by back-office staff.

With its membership continuing to expand, iRent needs a more efficient digital identity verification process to improve document data extraction and identity verification within its existing member workflow, while reducing the risks of forged documents and identity fraud.

The Solution: Integrating FaceMe eKYC APIs with the Existing Member System

Hoing Mobility Service adopted FaceMe eKYC, using HTTP APIs to integrate AI OCR document data extraction, document verification, liveness detection, and face-to-ID matching into iRent’s existing member system.

After new members submit their ID documents, driver’s licenses, and images of themselves, FaceMe eKYC uses AI OCR to recognize and extract document data, providing the information needed for subsequent identity and driving eligibility reviews. Face-to-ID matching checks whether the person in the submitted image is the same person shown in the ID photo. Combined with liveness detection, this helps reduce the risk of impersonation using photos or other images that do not depict a live person.

FaceMe eKYC’s API architecture allows Hoing Mobility Service to flexibly integrate the functions it needs into its existing member workflow. AI identity verification capabilities can be added to the existing iRent service without rebuilding the entire member system.

Why Hoing Mobility Service Chose FaceMe eKYC

  • Integrated identity verification capabilities: AI OCR, document verification, liveness detection, and face-to-ID matching meet member identity verification needs in a single solution.
  • More efficient document recognition: In testing conducted by Hoing Mobility Service, FaceMe eKYC performed well in both document OCR accuracy and processing speed, accelerating document data extraction and subsequent processing.
  • Reduced risk of identity fraud: Face-to-ID matching checks whether the user matches the ID photo. Together with liveness detection and document verification, it strengthens the security of member identity verification.
  • Flexible integration with existing systems: HTTP APIs enable flexible deployment of the required functions without major changes to the existing app or back-end system architecture.

The Results: More Efficient Identity Verification and Reviews, Starting with Image Capture

FaceMe eKYC brings identity verification quality checks forward to the point when members capture and submit their ID documents. If document images are blurred or affected by glare, or facial images do not meet recognition requirements, the system can immediately prompt members to retake the photos, preventing low-quality images from entering subsequent verification and manual review workflows.

With more accurate document data recognition and automated identity verification, iRent can reduce the manual checks and repeated submissions caused by image quality or recognition issues, speeding up member reviews. Members can also identify and correct photo capture issues sooner during registration, reducing the inconvenience of waiting and resubmitting materials.

FaceMe eKYC helps Hoing Mobility Service create a smoother member verification workflow, from image capture and identity verification to back-office review. As the service continues to grow, it supports verification efficiency, security, and the user experience.
