How to Trim a Video
Trimming is one of the most critical processes in video post-production. It involves removing a part of the beginning or end of a video clip.
When creating video content, you may end up with unwanted footage that makes your clip less compelling or affects the transition between clips. By trimming or shortening a video clip, you can focus just on the parts of the video that you find the most interesting. In doing so, you create a smoother flow and a more cohesive story.
If your project only consists of a single clip, trimming allows you to remove any footage that doesn’t add value to your video. Optimizing your content through trimming makes it easier to capture and keep your audience’s attention.

To trim a video on iPhone or Android, download the PowerDirector app from Google Play or Apple App Store. After downloading and installing the app, launch it on your device.

Scan your video carefully to determine which parts you want to remove. Tap on the clip to select it, and you will see trim lines appear on the left and right edges of the clip track.
Tap on the left-hand side edge of the track and drag it to the right to remove the unwanted footage at the start of your clip. Then, tap on the right-hand edge of the drag and drag it to the left to remove the extra footage beyond where you want the video to finish. As you drag the trimming edges, you will see a preview of the trimming point.
After trimming your clip, save the file by tapping on the export button in the top right corner of your screen.
How to Trim a Video on Windows and Mac
If you are using a Windows computer or Mac to edit your videos, you can also trim your videos using the desktop version of PowerDirector. After downloading and installing PowerDirector, launch it on your computer to start the trimming process.
If your project consists of a single clip, the quickest way to trim your video is to import the clip and trim it using the editing timeline.
After placing the video clip on the timeline, hover your mouse cursor on the left or right edge of the track. An icon with adjustment arrows will appear on either side of the track edge. Click and drag the arrows to the point where you want to cut the video.
You can also trim your video using the PowerDirector trimming tool. After adding your clips to the editing timeline, click on the Trim button. This button is in the top left of your screen and looks like a scissor.
The trim window will open, and there you can choose between Single Trim and Multi Trim. With Single Trim, drag the play head to where you want the video to start, then click the Mark In button. Next, drag the play head to where you want the video to stop, and click on the Mark Out button.
After finishing, click OK to save changes to the timeline.
With the Multi Trim feature, you can remove multiple segments from your clip. This tool is helpful for cutaways, and it works in the same way as Single Trim. Move the play head to each point where you want the video to start and stop by marking the points using the Mark In and Mark Out buttons.
After marking all the starting and stopping points, click on OK to add the clips to your timeline.
