A European construction workforce management platform integrated FaceMe® SDK into its mobile supervisor app and dedicated access control units to support facial recognition for worker timekeeping and site access. The solution gives construction teams an alternative to shared timekeeping kiosks while supporting identity verification at site entrances.
Construction activities employed 13.8 million people across the EU in 2024, according to the European Commission’s European Construction Observatory.¹ With employees and subcontractors working across sites with different access permissions, reliable timekeeping and identity verification are essential.
Shared Android tablet kiosks used for timekeeping were frequently damaged, while limited internet connectivity complicated operations. Conventional timekeeping also left room for buddy punching, where one worker records attendance on behalf of another. The platform needed a more durable and flexible way to manage attendance and site access without relying solely on shared kiosks.
FaceMe SDK was integrated into two parts of the workforce management system.
Mobile Supervisor App
Supervisors can log in using facial recognition, view employee information, and manage attendance from their own phones. This gives supervisors an alternative to shared kiosks and allows additional supervisors to use the app as needed.
Dedicated Access Control Units
Workers can clock in and out and verify site access using facial recognition, with on-screen instructions guiding them through the process. Recognition works in poorly lit environments, and authentication takes less than 0.5 seconds. FaceMe’s anti-spoofing technology helps prevent attempts to impersonate authorized workers using photographs. If a worker cannot be recognized or lacks the required permissions, access is denied.
FaceMe SDK supports iOS, Android, and Windows. In an on-premises deployment, a Windows-based server handles face enrollment and matching, while mobile devices submit authentication requests. The enrollment database remains on the server rather than being stored in the mobile app.
The solution gives construction teams two options for workforce verification: mobile attendance management for supervisors and dedicated units for worker timekeeping and site access. This reduces dependence on shared kiosks while supporting identity checks at site entrances.
